Avalanche Blow Lead Against Oilers

This team continues to amaze me. And not in a good way. Coming out of the first period with a 2-0 lead after dominating the play would seem to indicate that the strategy from that period was sound.

The Avalanche coaching staff felt otherwise. Instead of continuing to press the action, the team tried to sit back and defend the lead. That's right, it wasn't even the third period and the team tried to go defensive. That strategy blows harder than...well you fill in the analogy.

Final score, 3-0 after a 3-shot 2nd period spent trying to play defence and failing miserably.

And this is about all I feel like saying tonight. If I decide that this game wasn't the complete crapshoot I currently feel it was, I'll add some more content. Or if I feel like bitching some more.

Hi !

I think we can all forgot about the playoffs. MINN, CAL, VAN are ahead and they show no signs of slowing down.I think it's time to sell big time at the deadline, Skrastin(sp?), Hedjuk, Brunette, Lappy even Liles, I wouldn't mind if coming wednesday they were all gone. Get some draft picks and start to think for next season.

Everybody was so pumped when they annonced that Hannan and Smyth signed with the avs but we can all see that those moves were busts, Hannan -6 and he's not all that great. Smyth -7 and invisible for many games, no points in 6 games since coming back.

And seriously where the f*ck is Hedjuk ? oh yeah in one of his slumps, 2 freaking points in the month of Feb, 9 points in 23 games since the start of '08, Not good

The whole lock down defense thing works when you have a team for it. You know like the Devils had a year or two ago. We don't have that however.

I am not in favor of gutting a team for picks though. A few moves need to be done, but it isn't worth gutting the team, just the entire coaching staff.

Okay, i am going to try to stay calm here but...QUENVILLE YOU SUCK! Sorry guys i just cant take this anymore, i've watched hockey for years now and i cant remember a coach so ignorant, so overwhelmingly stupid is Quenville, why can't he understand that his strategies dont work.

As for the defense dont even get me started, all of the goals were due to a defensive collapse.

If it was possible i would package the entire defense in exchange for antoher. But more realistically i would trade hejduk, brunette, liles, hannan for draft picks or young talent and wait until the draft.

Guys the playoffs are not within reach of this great team coached by a stupid coach. Sorry

I certainly don't want the team to be gutted (and I don't see Giguere going that route either) but there are some players who could go and I wouldn't bat an eyelash.

Brunette, Skrastins and Liles come immediately to mind. I'm still not on board with trading Hejduk or Hannan. Hejduk has a modest cap hit to go with his modest numbers and, with a solid supporting cast, is a proven performer. Hannan is one season into a new club which is undercoached. I can't completely fault him for his performance. Nor do I completely absolve him of it.

"Guys the playoffs are not within reach of this great team coached by a stupid coach."

Actually the playoffs are still within reach in spite of the coaching ;)

You remember when Tony Granato had the reigns of a star-laden team in 03-04, right? :)
